Connector templates across the Raspberry Pi and Pico families

28 Sep 2026 · 20:05
  • Board and connector templates now cover 25 variants: Raspberry Pi 1–5 including A, A+, B and B+, Zero v1.2/v1.3, Zero W/WH, Zero 2 W and both Pico generations including wireless and header variants. Choose the exact model in Size, then add its connector set in Extras.
  • Each model uses its own layout. Pi 5 includes power-button access and optional CAM/DISP, PCIe, UART, fan, RTC and PoE windows. Zero distinguishes the revision without a camera connector; Pico offers GPIO, SWD and BOOTSEL access. Each option indicates its wall or lid location.
  • Original Pi 1 A/B templates are marked as reference dimensions to check against your board. Pi 1 B rev. 1 has no mounting holes, so no standoffs are generated. Compute Modules require a specific carrier board; keyboard Pi 400/500/500+ models are outside these templates. Check openings and cable plugs before the final print.

Connector opening template for Raspberry Pi 4

28 Sep 2026 · 19:45
  • After selecting Raspberry Pi 4 Model B in the Size step, add openings for USB-C, both micro-HDMI ports, audio, four USB ports, Ethernet and microSD access with one button in Extras. Optional lid windows provide access to GPIO, CSI camera, DSI display and PoE headers.
  • Turn individual connectors off and adjust aperture clearance for your cables. Openings automatically follow the board position and standoff height. “Edit openings individually” converts them to ordinary manually adjustable openings.
  • Pi 4 and Pi 3 B+ now have separate board templates. The first connector set is for Pi 4 Model B; other boards still use individually added openings. The new Pi 4 template also has the correctly offset mounting pattern and guide pins for 2.7 mm holes. Existing saved designs are not automatically changed.

Continuous letter strokes without unwanted gaps

26 Sep 2026 · 20:10
  • We fixed gaps where letter strokes meet, visible in letters such as K, R, A and X. Labels now have continuous strokes in both the 3D preview and exported models, for engraving and colored inlays. Letter counters and Czech diacritics are preserved.

Labels filled with a different filament color

26 Sep 2026 · 19:05
  • Enable “Fill the label with a different filament color” and choose a preview color. The fill is flush with the surface and works on the lid, bottom and all four walls. Without a fill, the label remains engraved.
  • Each colored label is a separate model part. The 3MF keeps it precisely aligned with its box or lid, including the lid’s print orientation. Assign the desired filament to the label parts in your slicer; the preview color does not configure your printer.
  • For a colored design, the 3MF download is directly available in the Finish step. The ZIP also includes a 3MF, individual STL files and brief instructions. Downloading just the box or lid also includes its colored labels. Inlays are intended to print together in multiple colors, not to be glued in afterwards.

A fresh look and simpler box design in four steps

26 Sep 2026 · 18:34
  • The configurator now opens with a short guide: Size → Lid → Extras → Finish. Start with dimensions or a template, then choose a closure and any extras. You can move between the steps at any time.
  • On desktop, the form stays on the left and the live 3D preview on the right. On mobile, a compact preview appears above the current step. The interface also supports narrow screens and dark mode.
  • Open technical details only when you need them. Openings, electronics mounts and labels have their own expandable sections; dividers, ventilation, displays and mounting are under “More extras”. You can finish a simple box without adding anything.
  • A new design starts as an empty box with a snap-fit lid, without a pre-added opening or standoffs. Board templates remain available, and saved designs keep their settings.
  • The full editor is still one button away. Switching from the guide and back preserves dimensions and all edits. Measurement and additional views are available in the “Tools” menu in the 3D preview.
  • The final step offers a design summary, a ZIP download of all parts or a print inquiry. Individual STL files, 3MF, required hardware and saving to your account are in expandable sections. Finishing no longer sends you back to the long form.

Teardrop holes, support-free bridging, oval holes, smaller corner bosses

13 Sep 2026 · 16:00
  • The "Optimize for printing without supports" option now does more: round holes in the walls (glands, connectors, feature screws) are teardrop-shaped with a max. 45° overhang, and the screw-head counterbores in the lid and nut pockets get Prusa-style stepped bridging – no circle hanging over a void.
  • New "Oval (slot)" hole shape in the walls, lid and bottom – one item instead of two circles and a rectangle.
  • The corner screw boss diameter is now adjustable (lid → "Screw boss diameter"). A non-sealed box can go down to 7.2 mm (M3) / 8.8 mm (M4) and the box corners follow – ideal for small ESP32 boxes. A sealed box keeps the minimum set by the seal groove.
  • The mounting-flange rib never covers a wall opening (USB, gland, grille) any more – it moves aside or gets lower.

Plain box with one button and removing openings on mobile

2 Sep 2026 · 20:00
  • Below "Add opening" there is a new "Plain box – remove all openings and standoffs" button: one click removes all wall, lid and bottom openings, PCB standoffs, rails, vents and dividers. Only walls, bottom and lid remain.
  • On phones and narrow windows the red trash button is always visible for every opening, standoff or vent – the row header now wraps; previously the button could end up off-screen.

I have a board – I need a box: fit the interior to the board

1 Sep 2026 · 09:00
  • The dimensions step gained a "Have a board already?" field: enter the board width and depth, it appears in green in the preview, and the "Fit the box" button computes the inner size including room for the round corner screw bosses – no more trial and error.
  • Warnings are now specific: the corner boss diameter, the exact minimum interior and suggested fixes (smaller M3 inserts or a screwless snap-fit lid). The summary lists the boss ⌀ and the free space between them.
  • The 3D preview stays put while you scroll the form (on wider screens) – you see changes immediately, no scrolling up and down.
  • Measuring: markers and the distance label keep a constant on-screen size and the label moves above the measured segment – short distances are easy to pick.

Bottom openings, PCB guide rails and labels anywhere

31 Aug 2026 · 22:00
  • Bottom openings: display window, encoder or microswitches, optional outer edge chamfer and a recess from inside (button-cap pocket) or outside (connector flange). Great for "bottom-up" designs where the bottom is the visible face.
  • Guide rails for a vertical board: the PCB simply slides into a slot between ribs – no screws. Position, board thickness and rail height are adjustable.
  • Labels anywhere: several at once (BT, RESET, USB…), each with its own size, position, rotation and mirroring – on the lid, bottom or walls.
  • Flat head lid screws (DIN 7991) with a countersink – they fit even a thin 3 mm lid. PCB standoffs gained a custom diameter and a single-standoff mode.

Lid openings: recesses and sharp corners

22 Aug 2026 · 14:00
  • A recess with adjustable diameter (margin for rectangles) and depth can now be added around every lid opening – from inside as a pocket for a custom button cap that stays in place and rests on the microswitch, or from outside for a connector flange (typically a 3.5 mm jack with a 2.5 mm flange in a 3 mm lid).
  • The recess depth is limited so that at least 0.6 mm of lid material remains; a recess too close to the lid edge triggers a warning.
  • Rectangular openings have an adjustable corner radius – 0 = sharp corners (e.g. for an encoder with a square body that previously needed filing).
  • The parts catalog gained a 3.5 mm panel jack (M6 thread).

Engraved label on any wall – by user request

22 Aug 2026 · 10:00
  • The engraved label is no longer limited to the lid: you can now place it on the front, back, left or right wall of the box. Perfect for boxes stored on a shelf – the label stays visible from the side, no stickers needed.
  • The label centres itself on the wall and shrinks if needed to fit the visible area (it stays clear of the lid skirt and the bottom). The engraving depth is automatically limited by the wall thickness.
  • Another idea from the “Got an idea?” form – thanks! Keep them coming, it works.

Loose lid without latches – by user request

18 Aug 2026 · 09:00
  • The snap-fit box has a new closure option “Loose lid – just rests on top, no locking”: no latches or magnets, the lid is guided only by its skirt and lifts off easily. Perfect for parts, screws and small bits.
  • Options that make no sense for the chosen closure (latch style, magnets) now hide themselves.
  • The idea came from the “Got an idea?” form – thank you! Keep them coming, it is the fastest way to improve Krabix.

User accounts and a new gallery 🎉

17 Aug 2026 · 10:00
  • Free registration (nickname + verified e-mail): keep boxes in your own library, sort them into categories and publish them in the gallery with one switch – for download, not editing.
  • A new gallery: categories, sorting by newest / downloads / likes, the author on every box and a share link. Anyone can leave a like.
  • Signed-in users also see their print order status right in the account. The account can be deleted anytime – everything you created disappears (GDPR).
  • Everything essential still works without registration: designing, STL/3MF downloads and print orders.

Privacy policy and small fixes

15 Aug 2026 · 21:30
  • A new “Privacy policy” page (linked from the footer and the print order form): what we collect, why, for how long and what your rights are. The site still works with no registration, no tracking cookies and no cookie banner.
  • Fix: the print-order link no longer scrolls the page down – the order opens and the page stays where it was.
  • After every site update your browser now loads fresh styles and scripts automatically – no need to clear the cache.

No printer? We can print your box for you

15 Aug 2026 · 18:00
  • A new "No printer? Order a print" button right next to the STL downloads: pick a material and colour and instantly see an estimated price computed from the weight of your specific box (printing + handling + shipping) and the current printer workload.
  • The order is a non-binding inquiry – the price and date are confirmed by e-mail and payment follows the confirmation. Use the note for anything (custom colour, different material…).
  • The download card is tidier: the CAD-import note is now collapsed and expands only when you need it.
  • A new “3D printing” page (in the main menu): how the service works, a live per-material price list and the current printer queue in pieces. The configurator home page has a service banner.
  • Administration at /admin: password login, Overview / Orders / Settings sub-pages in the Krabix design, colour-coded order states and a “Pause printing” button with a message to customers (illness, holidays).
  • A new footer: links to the guide and contact (no longer in the header) and an “In the media” section – VTM.cz, Lupa.cz and ABC Linuxu.

Krabix.cz now speaks English 🇬🇧

15 Aug 2026 · 15:15
  • The whole site now has an English version at krabix.cz/en/ – the configurator including the wizard, warnings and summary, the guide, the gallery and the news. Czech stays unchanged at the original addresses.
  • The header has a CZ/EN switcher that keeps the current page and remembers your choice. Visitors with an English browser get a one-time banner offer on the Czech version – no automatic redirects.
  • Both language versions are linked for search engines (hreflang, per-language canonical URLs, a bilingual sitemap), so there is no duplicate content and Google indexes both Czech and English.
  • Shared boxes work in both languages: /k/{id} in Czech, /en/k/{id} in English. The dimensions diagram has an English variant.

Wall openings: reliable vertical positioning and portrait orientation

15 Aug 2026 · 12:45
  • Fix: with a low "center height" (e.g. 1 mm) the opening sank below the inner floor, leaving only a notch in the bottom edge of the wall. The opening now always stays fully within the wall – at the lowest it rests its bottom edge on the inner floor, at the highest it stays 2 mm below the top edge. Every change of the value now visibly moves the opening; if it gets clamped, a warning shows the actual center height.
  • Non-round openings (custom rectangle as well as catalog connectors – USB, HDMI, RJ45, SD…) get a new Orientation option: landscape or portrait (rotated 90°). For the panel-mount XT60, the mounting screw spacing rotates along with the opening.
  • Vent grilles and fans in the walls got the same vertical seating, and the element highlight in the 3D preview now tracks the actual position of the opening.

A big batch of updates: tray lids, magnets, nuts, e-paper and more

10 Aug 2026 · 15:00
  • Tray lid: the lid can have its own wall height – the "Equal-height halves" button splits the box open in the middle. Works with all types including the sealed one (the seal groove moves to the bottom edge of the lid wall).
  • Inner lid: a separate compartment (e.g. for test leads) can be added to the tray lid – the flat inner lid is held by magnets and has a finger hole; it prints as a separate part.
  • Magnetic closure for the snap-fit lid: ⌀5×2 or ⌀8×3 mm magnets around the perimeter, or a hinge at the back + magnets at the front.
  • Swivel latches on an M3 screw: a robust, replaceable alternative to printed flexible latches – the tab swings into a cutout in the skirt and prints separately.
  • Pockets for DIN 934 hex nuts as an alternative to heat-set inserts (M3–M5), with adjustable offset from the top edge. The sealed box keeps inserts (a nut channel would break through the seal).
  • PCB standoffs now also in the lid, and the 3D preview shows a semi-transparent outline of the mounted board (templates know the real dimensions).
  • E-paper display window in the lid: a viewing cutout + a pocket for the whole panel, presets for common sizes (1.54″–7.5″), a keyhole slot in the bottom for wall hanging. Combined with dividers and standoffs you can build a complete frame with room for a battery and electronics.
  • Mounting tabs with 4.5 × 9 mm slotted holes – a lighter alternative to full flanges, along the width or the depth.
  • Panel-mount elements: XT60 (XT60E-M) in a wall, MP 45×45 panel meter (91C4) in the lid or a wall – including mounting screws. Fans 30–120 mm (opening + screw spacing) in walls and the lid, and grille slots have adjustable width.
  • Sharp corners (for the snap-fit lid), a switchable lid top-edge offset, and a "print without supports" mode (teardrop hinge pin holes, ramps under the latch wedges).
  • Adjustable lid screw spacing on long boxes (40–200 mm).
  • Independent scrolling of the settings panel – the 3D preview now stays on screen.
  • Supporting the project: next to the QR code there are now also standard payment details (account, IBAN, message) with copy buttons.
  • A note on CAD export (STEP): the configurator builds mesh geometry directly in the browser, so direct STEP export is not possible yet; import 3MF/STL into your CAD as a mesh.

Collision fixes: flange ribs, hinges and dividers

10 Aug 2026 · 12:00
  • Fix: on small boxes, the reinforcing rib of the mounting flange intersected the latch or the skirt of the snap-fit lid. The rib now stays below the bottom edge of the skirt and, on a wall with a latch or a hinge, moves aside automatically (without covering the zip-tie channels or the wood screw holes).
  • Fix: hinge positions were not recalculated for the lid skirt height – with a taller skirt the lid could not be opened (the skirt jammed against the wall). The hinge axis now moves down with the skirt, and the hinge arms and guide shoulders near the hinge are adjusted so the lid swings open freely.
  • Fix: the preview and the STL built at most 6 internal dividers even though more could be added in the configurator. The limit was raised to 16, and the "add" buttons now enforce the maximums for all elements.
  • Dimensions in the wizard: width, depth and height are labeled with the X / Y / Z axes (same as in the slicer – height is Z), and the dimension diagram is shown right in step 2.
  • Verified: all lid screw holes lie outside the sealing loop (the groove routes around them from the inside) – checked on 63 combinations of dimensions, seal cords and inserts.

Stronger hinges on large boxes

26 Jul 2026 · 9:00
  • Snap-fit lid hinges are now placed dynamically: the outer pairs sit roughly at thirds of the wall width (spacing 0.6× the inner width) instead of the previous 64 mm cap.
  • From an inner width of ~170 mm a third hinge is added automatically, from ~340 mm a fourth – just like latches get doubled. The summary shows the number of hinges and screws.

Seal now routes inside the screws + lid openings

25 Jul 2026 · 10:30
  • A major sealing improvement: the seal groove now routes around every lid screw from the inside (over the top of the screw boss). The screws are thus completely outside the sealed volume, so nothing can leak through the screw holes. The summary calculates the cord length precisely, detours included.
  • Lid openings: LED indicators (3/5 mm, with a holder), push buttons ⌀12/16/19 mm, KCD1 and KCD4 rocker switches, a 0.28″ panel voltmeter + custom circle and rectangle. A catalog element only pre-fills the dimensions – you can adjust the window size as needed.
  • Fix: "Download both" used to deliver only the box because the browser blocked the second download – now a single ZIP with all parts is downloaded.
  • New 3MF export: all parts in one file, correctly oriented and in mm – open it directly in PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio or Cura.

New mounting options, bigger hinges and gallery previews

24 Jul 2026 · 18:30
  • "Wood screws + zip tie together" mounting: a wider flange with wood screw holes in the corners and zip-tie channels closer to the wall.
  • External TS35 DIN rail mounting: the box snaps onto the rail with its bottom. The clip prints as a separate third part (no supports) and screws on with 4× M3 into inserts in the bottom.
  • Snap-fit lid hinges: bigger knuckles and a pin made from an M3 or M4 screw with a lock nut (1.75 mm filament remains an option).
  • Gallery: every box now shows a picture – the preview is captured automatically on save.
  • 3D preview: the lid can also be exploded sideways (so you can see inside the box), and the Default button returns the camera to its original position.
  • Fix: the gallery crashed on boxes with the newer mounting format (mount as an object).
  • "Got an idea?" modal: an optional e-mail for a reply – it is not stored anywhere, it is only added as the Reply-To of the message.

Latch fix and new board templates

24 Jul 2026 · 11:30
  • Fix: the latch wedge on the wall of a snap-fit box was generated degenerate (a thin sliver) – the lid had nothing to snap into. The same bug also deformed rectangular connector openings, vent slots and the DIN rail.
  • New board templates: Arduino UNO R3 (exact irregular hole pattern), Arduino Nano and Pro Mini.
  • LaskaKit templates: ESP32-DEVKit / LPKit and ESP32-C3-LPKit – hole spacings verified against the manufacturer's production files, with added supports under the free end of the board.
  • Wall openings: a new opening is pre-filled with the actual center height, so it can be moved down or up right away.

True-to-scale grid and distance measuring

24 Jul 2026 · 10:30
  • The floor grid in the 3D preview matches real-world scale: fine lines every 10 mm, bold lines every 50 mm (label at the bottom right).
  • New Measure button: click two points on the model to measure any distance in mm.

Thin-wall corner fix + statistics

24 Jul 2026 · 9:40
  • Fix: with a thin wall (under ~3 mm), crescent-shaped gaps appeared in the corners – the inner corner of the cavity is now concentric with the outer one, so the wall always has full thickness in the corners.
  • Statistics of modeled boxes: an anonymous counter of downloaded STLs, with an overview on the home page and in the footer.

Step-by-step wizard

23 Jul 2026 · 23:55
  • New design mode: the Wizard – 8 simple steps from box type to STL download.
  • A choice on first visit: the Wizard, or the Full form (for experienced users).
  • Switch back and forth at any time – all values stay pre-filled.
  • Snap-fit lid: latches at the front and back (or hinge + latch), automatically doubled on wide boxes.

A universal enclosure tool

23 Jul 2026 · 22:45
  • Three box types: sealed (outdoor), screw-on and snap-fit (indoor) – selected with buttons.
  • Connector openings: USB-C, micro-USB, USB-A, HDMI, RJ45, DC jack, SD card + custom circle and rectangle.
  • Vent grilles in the walls and the lid (1.6 mm slots).
  • TS35 DIN rail on the bottom and dividers inside.
  • Engraved text on the lid (local font, Czech diacritics).
  • Board templates: Raspberry Pi 4, Pi Zero 2, ESP32 DevKit, NodeMCU v3.
  • Snap-fit lid with a visible latch (clicks shut and holds) and an optional hinge with a filament pin.
  • PCB standoff types: heat-set insert, self-tapping screw, guide pin, plain standoff.
  • Dupont 3/4-pin and Qwiic/StemmaQT connectors, adjustable print tolerance for openings.
  • A simpler form: the basics visible, advanced settings collapsed.
  • The What's new page.

Snap-in seal and feedback

23 Jul 2026 · 19:30
  • The seal cord now snaps into a dovetail channel in the lid – it stays put on its own and does not fall out.
  • A raised step on the wall compresses the cord by exactly the specified percentage.
  • "Got an idea?" button – ideas and feedback straight to the site operator (with bot protection).
  • A custom 404 page, sitemap.xml, robots.txt and canonical URLs.

Construction modeled on industrial enclosures

23 Jul 2026 · 16:00
  • Lid screws in corner bosses inside the outline, with the seal groove routing around them from the inside.
  • A drip skirt on the lid covers the seam, and a stepped lid has a lightening pocket.
  • Mounting flanges with reinforcing ribs and a choice of side (wood screws / zip tie).
  • ± buttons on all values, dimension callouts right in 3D, a 180° preview flip, and a dimension diagram.
  • View switching: both / box / lid / without the cord.

Krabix.cz launch
